Temporary staffing agencies are companies that develop employment agreements with employers to assist in hiring and employing contractors on a temporary or temporary-to-hire basis.

Sometimes temporary staffing agencies can also be called a “temp agency” or a “staffing agency”.

Hiring contractors on a temporary-basis can mean seasonally, part-time, full-time, or on a project basis.

Temporary-to-hire (also known as “temp-to-hire”) refers to someone who is hired on through an agency that works with an employer initially on a seasonal, part-time, full-time or project-basis, who the employer later decides to add to their internal team as their own full-time or part-time employee.

Some temporary staffing agencies work in more of a general capacity, handling the hiring and placement of a variety of professionals.  Other agencies are more specialized and focus on a particular niche or industry sector.  These agencies can also be known as “boutique agencies.”
